Lives in the Yiddish Theatre

SHORT BIOGRAPHIES OF THOSE INVOLVED IN THE YIDDISH THEATRE
AS DESCRIBED IN ZALMEN ZYLBERCWEIG'S "LEXICON OF THE YIDDISH THEATRE"

1931-1969

Andzha Foderman
(Chana)

F. was born on 8 August 1888 in Warsaw, Poland, to well-to-do parents, who passed away when she was very young.

She became enamored with her father, the actor Herman Feinstein; she went with him later into Kompaneyets' troupe in Dubel where she was a chorus singer, and after a few days she debuted as "Reyzele" in Moshe Richter's "Hertsele meyukhes."

After performing in Misha German's troupe, where she acted in soubrette roles, she crossed over a little later to mother roles, and she created a series of types and characters in operettas, as well as in dramatic repertoire.

After her marriage to conductor and composer David Beigelman, she settled in Lodz, where she acted year-round in the troupes of Kaminski, Zandberg, Adler-Serotsky and later in various member troupes.

In a span covering many years, she acted in Lodz and had the opportunity to act with the guest stars Moshkowitz, Feinman, Lobel, Thomashefsky, Kessler, Silbert, and later with the younger generation guest-stars, such as Molly Picon et al.

F. also participated in the production of Gordin's "The Slaughter" in Russia.

On 14 September 1941, F. passed away in Lodz. Her husband, David Beigelman, was murdered by the Nazis. Her son, Piniek, a musician, was saved and was found in New York.
