Lives in the Yiddish Theatre

SHORT BIOGRAPHIES OF THOSE INVOLVED IN THE YIDDISH THEATRE
AS DESCRIBED IN ZALMEN ZYLBERCWEIG'S "LEXICON OF THE YIDDISH THEATRE"

1931-1969

Wolf Neuhaus

Born on 20 January 1891 in Izbica, Kalish Gubernia, Poland.

His father was a fur coat merchant.

He learned in a cheder, then in a yeshiva and privately studied secular subjects.

After moving over to Lodz, he became a theatre "patrioten (devoted fan)," ministering to the actors and prompting behind the scenes, later prompting "amateurs," and from 1910 on he became a professional prompter in the troupes of Titelman, Kaminski, Julius Adler-Herman Serotsky, Zandberg-Waxman, Kompaneyets, Kuperman, and with provincial troupes and member troupes in Lodz.

N. was a founder and secretary of the Lodz department for the Yiddish Artists Union in Poland, and since 1924 he has been a member in the central management of the professional Yiddish Actors Union in Poland.

N. published several protocol reports of the Yiddish Artists Union conventions and several necrologies about Yiddish actors.

On 16 April 1930 in Lodz's Philharmonic Hall there was a jubilee, celebrating N.'s twenty years of activity.
